Driving using mobile phone – New laws from Feb 2020

As of February 1st 2020, using your
mobile phone while driving in Qld got a whole lot more expensive.

The fine for getting caught using your phone while driving has sky rocketed to $1000 and 4 demerit points. This is from a previous $400 and 3 demerit points. If you get caught again within 12 months, double demerit points apply, and you may even lose your licence.

This includes checking your phone while stopped at a traffic light or while in congestion. The rules are even stricter for P1 drivers under 25, check out all the rules here on the Qld Gov website.
